Giving information on new technology, Dr. Rajiv Kumar Singh, Associate Professor and Senior Project Investigator in the Department of Electrical Engineering He said, “Rising petrol and diesel prices in the country are worrying for the common man. Amid the rising cost of petroleum products and rising pollution levels, electric vehicles (EVs) are the best alternative to traditional IC drives, but the lack of high-energy panel charging infrastructure is forcing automakers to integrate chargers Onboard the vehicle in the vehicle itself. The vehicle owner can charge the vehicles through the port, thus, electric vehicles become very expensive.”
He reported that with the new technology developed at the institute, the cost of the on-board charger could be reduced by about 50%. This will also significantly reduce the cost of electric vehicles. The technology will be completely original and will have a huge impact on electric vehicle driving on Indian roads in a big way. The laboratory scale has already been developed at IIT (BHU) and is being updated and commercialized. He added that the country’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer has also shown interest in this new technology and is ready to develop a complete commercial product that can be applied to existing electric vehicles. Experts from IIT Guwahati and IIT Bhubaneswar have also collaborated to develop this technology. Electric cars will be available to the general public.
Dr. Singh informed that this research is financially supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. This innovative technology of the institute will also contribute to the e-mobility mission of the government. With the help of this new technology, the vehicle charging infrastructure in the country will be improved and the general public’s access to electric vehicles will be easily feasible. He explained that the electric car contributes to sustainable development because it improves the health of society by eliminating exhaust emissions, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and with the integration of renewable energy into existing electricity networks, low electricity rates can be reduced. The institute will soon establish a multidisciplinary center for electric vehicle technology.
Institute Director Professor Pramod Kumar Jain He said, “The cutting edge technology will help produce low-cost electric vehicles that will be beneficial to the common man. The commercial, social, economic and environmental impact of the technology will also be positive. The technology will improve charging infrastructure and support the government’s mission to bring electric vehicles on Indian roads in a big way.” Professor Jain also reported that quite a few projects to develop autonomous vehicles and connected vehicles are already underway with IIT (BHU) Varanasi. One such project is the Averera project, which actually won first prize globally at the Shell Eco Marathon last year. He further said that IIT (BHU) Varanasi plans to establish a multidisciplinary center for electric vehicle technologies to carry out the design, manufacture and testing of battery management systems, research commercialization and provide solutions to R&D problems and human resource development in this field. . “
